NORMAN— The University of Oklahoma School of Music presents THEATRE MUSIC OF HENRY PURCELL, performed by the OU Collegium Musicum as part of the Sutton Concert Series at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 in the Grayce B. Kerr Gothic Hall of the Catlett Music Center.

 

“During the last few years of his life, Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was the most popular composer of theatre music in London,” says Eugene Enrico, OU Reaugh Professor of Musicology and director of the OU Collegium Musicum. “In our concert you’ll hear a choice collection of this wonderful music.”

The concert presents The Four Seasons Maske from THE FAIRIE QUEEN, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; along with The Witches’ Scene from DIDO AND AENEAS; The Frost Scene from KING ARTHUR; The Incantation Scene from THEODOSIUS; and The Maske of Fame and Envy from THE INDIAN QUEEN. An orchestra of violins, viola, cello, bass, recorders, oboes, trumpets, timpani and harpsichord will accompany a select group of ten singers, including sopranos Skye Singleton and Rachel Snapp; mezzo-soprano Melissa Delgado, countertenor Zachary Malavolti, tenors Hunter Birkhead, Paul Whitehead and John Morrow, baritones Robert Hartfield and Dylan Madous, and bass Dorian McCall.

 

All Sutton Series performances are in OU’s Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd, in your OU Arts District! Tickets for Sutton Series events are $9 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, staff and senior adults. For tickets and up-to-date information call the Fine Arts Box Office at (405) 325-4101.

	Michelle Moeller added a photo in Artist Opportunities in OK.     Michelle Moeller April 2 at 2:38pm Hi! Perpetual Motion is looking for someone who can take these white boxes that we have and add some texture to the outside of them to make them look like tree trunks with roots. 4 boxes total, two 2x2 squares and two 4x2 rectangles. We want to keep them white so that we can project various colors on them (making them look like coral, stalagmites, or trees depending on the scene). We would need them by April 30th. Here's where you buy tickets: Friday Saturday Please note: Ilene Weiss! My dear friend Ilene is coming in from New Jersey to sing in the Joni Mitchell Tributes, and she'll have her own show on Sunday, April 15th at the Blue Door. I've covered three Ilene Weiss songs: 'Patience' on 'Patience'; and 'Get Out Now' and 'Taking the Long Way Home' from 'Puppy.' If you know those songs, you know that she is the absolute best and she doesn't come to Oklahoma City very often. The show's at 8 pm - tickets are on sale at the website but it's probably not necessary to buy in advance. Please come see Ilene: it's a once in a lifetime opportunity!

A couple of cool and groovy fundraisers! Wednesday, April 25th: A fundraiser for Sally's List at the 21-C Hotel, 900 W Main Street. 7 - 9 pm. Sally's List empowers women who want to run for elected office. Thursday, April 26th: Slay the Dragon (of poverty) fundraiser at Saint Paul's, 127 NW 7th Street. This is for the Guild of Saint George, that runs a food pantry and help ministry there at Saint Paul's. This party's early: 5:30 to 7:30, and there's wine and hors d'oeuvre from some of Oklahoma City's most popular restaurants. The donation is $50.

Saturday, April 28th: Miss Brown to You Quartet at UCO!

Come join us for a night of mostly jazz with our wonderful cohorts Randy Coyne (drums) and Roger Kimball (saxophone.) Music starts at 8 pm. $10.
