Third Thursday: A Night of Hygge

Third annual event planned for this Thursday

WHEN: Jan. 17, 5 to 9 p.m. 

WHERE: The Oklahoma City Museum of Art, 415 Couch Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73102

WHO: Activities are appropriate for teens and adults and no reservations are required. Third Thursday admission is $12 for non-members and free for members.

WHAT: “Hygge” represents the Danish art of surviving winter through coziness, friends, and living well, so cozy up around (battery-operated) candlelight, have a drink, and enjoy the galleries. Third Thursday is presented by Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores.

• Special menu in the Museum Cafe
• Cozy cocktails at the lobby bar
• 6 p.m. "Off the Wall" tour with curator Roja Najafi (additional fee)

FREE ADMISSION FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES

  IMPACTED BY SHUTDOWN BEGINS TODAY 

Employees can show valid, government issued I.D. at admissions desk

Beginning Jan. 16 the Oklahoma City Museum of Art will offer free admission to Federal employees impacted by the partial government shutdown.

"The Museum is standing by employees who are currently working without pay," said E. Michael Whittington, OKCMOA president and CEO. "This is the least we can do to thank them for their service to our country. We hope the Museum can act as a place of peace and tranquility during this tumultuous time."

Federal employees must show a valid, government issued I.D. at the Museum's admission desk to take advantage of the free admission.

Saturday, January 12th: The Lobby Enjoy jazz and blues and all sorts of other stuff underneath the diorama of the life of Will Rogers. Where else you gonna do that? It's Oklahoma City, baby. 8:30 - 10:30. 4322 N. Western Avenue.

Saturday, January 19th: Bohemian Night The perfect way to get your Carnival season revels revved up: dancing, dining, drinking and raising money for microcredit lending. From 7:00 - 10:00 at the First Unitarian Church, 1300 N. Dewey Avenue. Admission is sliding scale: $5 - $50 that will have a Butterfly Effect on the other side of the world.

Friday, January 25th: UCO The Miss Brown Quartet at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. 5th Street, Edmond. Music from 8:00 - 10:30, $10 admission.

February 2nd: Full Circle

Our regular First Saturday Date. 7:30 - 9:30, no cover.

Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Closures --

and Shelters to remain open

Due to the winter storm forecast, The Salvation Army Oklahoma City administrative office, social services office, Boys & Girls Club and four senior centers will be closed Thursday, January 3rd. The Salvation Army offices in Norman and El Reno will be closed as well.

The Salvation Army shelters in Oklahoma City and Norman will continue to provide safety from the cold with beds and food. Shelters are located at:

Robert Mills’ The Nutcracker, presented by Devon Energy, will be on stage Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Sunday December 16 at 2:00 p.m., and the next weekend on Friday, December 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday 22 at 2:00 p.m. and and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Civic Center.

Tchaikovsky’s familiar score and Oklahoma City Ballet’s Artistic Director Robert Mills’ delightful staging of The Nutcracker will fill your heart with the spirit of the season as Clara and the Nutcracker Prince return to enchant both the young and the young at heart. 

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic and students from the Oklahoma City Ballet Yvonne Chouteau School join with our professional company dancers to present an experience your whole family will remember for years to come.

“Nutcracker season is always a special time of year for our entire organization. I love to see the excitement of the students in our school who have auditioned to be a part of the production,” said Mills.

“This excitement permeates into the audience and coupled with our beautiful sets, costumes and the Tchaikovsky score played by the OKC Phil, it creates a wonderful holiday experience for our patrons. “
