Perpetual Motion Dance is seeking 2-3 new company members for our 2017-2018 season! Audition will consist of an hour and a half modern class followed by an aerial invitation to one of our weekly classes. Some aerial experience (or ambition to learn) preferred but
not required. BFA in Dance Performance or equal experience preferred. Please bring resume and headshot/dance photo.

Perpetual Motion Dance rehearsal schedule is Sunday 10:00-2:00, Wednesday 6:00-10:00 and 1 morning rehearsal (day TBA) from 9:00am-1:00pm. Perform an average of 2-3 times a month. Must be able to commit to weekly rehearsal schedule, plus two-week rehearsal/performance schedule in May for our Spring concert.

HE SAID/SHE SAID
WELL WORTH SEEING

"He Said/She Said," performed by Race Dance Company and the Men of Race, was
an enjoyable dance discussion between between the sexes last weekend at Oklahoma
Contemporary. RACE is Oklahoma's only jazz, hip hop, and contemporary in
Oklahoma.

The nine men used old school, contemporary hip hop and acrobatics to present their 
points of view. Choreographer 
Jeremiah Walton's "Big Poppa," music by Notorious B.I.G/BIG Poppa, stood out with
the men's lithe very funny come hither moves in the dance. The six women performed
with jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical moves. Choreographer and executive 
director Hui Cha Poos' "Easy" was a dance by four women with great energy, starting
from the stage floor and leaping into the air and across each other adding a touch of acrobatics.

The two short films of dances - "Affliction," concept and choreography by Cristen Whitaker,
and "dis[Ability]," concept and choreography by Gina Marie Foxhoven, added depth
to the program.
 
RACE will begin its 10th year August 27 with AUDITIONS for RACE DANCE COMPANY
at 1 p.m., for MEN OF RACE AT 3 p.m., and JR/TEEN RACE AT 5 p.m. at the University
of Central Oklahoma, 100 N. University Drive, Edmond, OK, 73034. The registration fee

A series celebrating the work of David Lynch will screen Aug. 10-17

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) hosts a film series called "Summer of Lynch" screening Aug. 10 to 17. This series presents a new documentary about David Lynch's artistic process alongside a curated six-film retrospective of newly restored and rarely screened films directed by Lynch, including a 35mm print of "Inland Empire" provided personally by the director himself.

"From his early short films through his recent feature film and television work, David Lynch has developed a specifically American, surrealist aesthetic that is both utterly distinctive and incredibly influential," said Dr. Michael J. Anderson, director of curatorial affairs. "For 'Summer of Lynch,' we've selected a stylistically diverse group of films that demonstrate the full scope of the director's artistic evolution."

"The 2017 revival of the cult television series 'Twin Peaks' has led to a surge of critical and popular interest in Lynch's work, as well as a number of exciting restoration projects and long-awaited theatrical rereleases," Anderson added. "In order to remain true to Lynch's original aesthetic vision, all the films in our retrospective will be screening in new high-definition restorations or on 35mm."

Tickets are now on sale and are $5 for OKCMOA members, $9 for adults and $7 for seniors (62+) and college students with IDs.  

"Summer of Lynch" will open on Thursday, Aug. 10 with "David Lynch: The Art Life," an illuminating new documentary that moves between candid footage of the director at work in his Hollywood Hills studio and beautifully illustrated stories from his childhood, adolescence and early film career.

Bridging the gap between Lynch's early work as a painter and his filmmaking career, "Summer of Lynch" will feature a newly restored, hour-long program of the director's unsettling, darkly comic experimental short films. Presented in pristine 4K, Lynch's first feature, "Eraserhead," is a dark domestic fable that boasts richly tactile black and white cinematography and the evocative sound design that has become one of the director's signatures.

The series will include a stunning new 25th anniversary restoration of the haunting "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with me" and the 30th anniversary rerelease of Lynch's critical breakthrough, "Blue Velvet." One of the darkest portraits of Middle America ever to grace the silver screen, "Blue Velvet" is an off-kilter neo-noir that provides a lurid glimpse at what lies beyond the white-picket fence. "Fire Walk With Me" is a must-see for fans of both the original "Twin Peaks" series and the 2017 revival as it chronicles the tragic last days of enigmatic, murdered high-school student Laura Palmer.

"Summer of Lynch" will also showcase two recent films that offer thematically consistent but formally distinct explorations of the contemporary film industry's dark unconscious. Presented in a new 4K restoration, Lynch's Hollywood-set magnum opus "Mulholland Dr." was named the best film of the 21st century in a 2016 BBC poll. Lynch's most recent, and likely final feature film, "Inland Empire," presents a fearlessly experimental chronicle of an actress's increasingly nightmarish break with reality. Largely absent from theaters since its 2006 release, "Inland Empire" will be screened on a 35mm print personally provided by Lynch.

Film starts at 9 p.m. but put on your whiskers and cat ears and enjoy pre-screening festivities complete with food trucks, live music with Jenkins Valley at 7:30-8:30 p.m., drinks and more. Get your whiskers painted by Kaleidoscope Arts. Oklahoma City Animal Welfare will be out with adoptable cats.

Tequila Azul

In January of 2014, a group of friends came together to have a jam session. After a night of hanging out, the group decided to form a Latin Pop Rock group called Tequila Azul, forming the 1st Latin Pop Rock group in Oklahoma! They perform across Oklahoma and surrounding states at different events such as cultural festivals, Arts Council events, Clubs, Private Parties, Business events, etc. Tequila Azul gets the crowd dancing no matter where they play!

Forming the foundation of Tequila Azul is Aaron Squiirrel - guitar, Armando Rivera - Congas, Charlie Quintero - Cogas, Edgar Salazar - bass, Ivan Castillo - vocals and guitar, Lee Hernan - voice, Paulo Valles - drums, and Ricardo Sasaki - keyboards. Through their musical diversity and energy, Tequila Azul entertains any audience for a wide-variety of events covering songs from artists such as Juanes, Mana, Shakira, Thalia, etc. For an exciting and fun filled performance, enjoy the sounds of Tequila Azul!

Perpetual Motion Dance is looking for creative, hard working dancers ages 13 and up, to be a part of our PM2 Junior and Teen Company for the 2017-2018 season.  Selected PM2 Company Members will have the opportunity to study modern and aerial dance through weekly classes and rehearsals with Perpetual Motion Company members, and will also be a part of several performance opportunities throughout the year.

We have some new venues to introduce you to this month! But first, our comfortable old stand-by, the Full Circle Book Store.  Saturday, August 5th, 7:30 - 9:30.  Besides the music, there's treats and beverages available. Tuesday, August 8th: Our first (but hopefully not last) appearance at Tuesday Tunes at Lou’s Rocky Road Tavern, 118 S 2nd Street, Okemah. This event lasts from 7:00 - 10:00, and the whole night is a kind of a shindig with several local lights playing, and our set is approximately 8:00 - 9:00.  I'm really excited about the possibilities of a regular event like this to support local music in Woody Guthrie's Home Town! Sunday, August 13th: our first appearance the Norman's Red Brick Bar, at the Okie Lady Showcase, hosted by Susan Herndon!  Note: this venue is a smoking venue.  113 E Main Street, Norman.  Friday, August 18th: we'll be at our Stillwater hang-out, Zannotti’s Wine Bar, from 8:00 - 11:00. That's at 113 E 7th Avenue, Stillwater. Wednesday, August 23rd: our first appearance at Lunch and Listen at the Norman Public Library West, 300 Norman Center Court, over there west of I-35, south of Main Street - the old Border's Books.  Noon to 1:00.
