Panel Discussion: Innovation in Arts Education Thursday, April 19th  •  6:30-7:30pm Join us on Thursday, April 19th from 6:30-7:30pm for a panel discussion on Innovation in Arts Education. Moderated by Current Studio's Kelsey Karper, this panel features an array of knowledgeable and experienced figures in the arts and education community. All are welcome to contribute to the conversation as we explore this topic during our Second Annual Mentorship Exhibition. This event is free and open to the public with complimentary refreshments provided. Parking is available in the lot behind our building.

The Mae Ruth Swanson Memorial Concert

On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, Oklahoma City’s Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present the fifth concert of its 2017-18 season, “Old and New.”   The “old” is Franz Schubert’s perennially-popular “Trout” quintet, written nearly 100 years ago when Schubert was only 22.  The “new” is a World Premier performance of a striking work by Oklahoma City composer Samuel Magrill, commissioned by Brightmusic.   The quartet by Saint-Saëns, falling somewhere in between, was the composer’s second and final foray into the genre.

The works on the program are:

• Samuel Magrill, Five Bagatelles for Flute, Violin, Cello & Piano
  Commissioned by Brightmusic for World Premier Performance 
• Camille Saint-Saëns, Piano Quartet No. 2 in B-flat major, op. 41 (for piano, violin, viola & cello)
• Franz  Schubert, Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 The “Trout” (for piano, violin, viola, cello & double bass)

Musicians appearing:
Gregory Lee (violin), Mark Neumann (viola), Jonathan Ruck (cello), George Speed (double bass), Mira Magrill (flute), Amy I-Lin Cheng (piano), and Samuel Magrill (piano)

The performance will take place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, April 17 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street (at Robinson).  Individual concert admission is $20 per ticket.  Children, students and active-duty military personnel are admitted free with ID.  More information about this concert is available on our website, www.brightmusic.org.

FRIDAY NIGHT

     Artistic Director Robert Mills celebrated the end of his tenth season with the OKC Ballet by presenting the tension filled Petal, followed by Petite Mort, and The Means to Fly. The performance was an evening of dances new to enthusiastic Oklahoma City audiences. 
     Mill's annual season ending production of classical, yet contemporary ballets, gives Oklahoma City Ballet goers a chance to see performances from around the world. Petite Mort's choreographer, Czech republic based Jiří Kylián, is "one of the most influential choreographers in the last 30 years," said Mills.  Petite Mort had its company premiere tonight.  Mills' The Means to Fly, began its development at the National Choreographers Initiative in Irvine, California in 2017.
Helen Pickett's Petal, which made its debut with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, received its Oklahoma premiere tonight at 8 p.m. in the Civic Center Auditorium. 
     There are two more performances of Petite Mort: A Triple Bill - Saturday evening at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. For more information go online to https://www.okcballet.org/.

Street Parking 

Street Parking is available along Main Street, Sheridan Ave, and Latting Circle. There is a limited number of street parking available due to the Couch and Colcord closures. 

Paid Surface Lot Parking 

Paid parking is available at surface lots on Main Street and the surrounding area. 

Paid Garage Parking 

Paid parking is available in the Arts District Garage, 431 W Main St., and Sheridan/Walker Garage, 501 W Sheridan Ave. The Arts District Garage entrances are off Main Street (westbound lanes, near Hudson Ave) and off Latting Circle. The entrance to the Sheridan/Walker Garage is located on Walker Ave. 

We recommend parking in the Arts District Garage for easy access to the Civic Center.

Patron Drop Off/ADA Accessibility 

The Civic Center's ADA ramps at the north and south ends of the building will be accessible. For drop off, patrons can turn into the police lot next to CDS Designs (529 W Main St) and exit from the 603 W Main Street lot. The ME/Cu drive thru will also be available for drop off, however, longer vehicles may not be able to make the U-turn through in the drive thru.
