REPOST:

LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLERS
SHINE IN RACE DANCE COMPANY'S
"HIP HOP NUTCRACKER"

Members of RACE Dance Company join forces with seven Oklahoma City Public High School dance programs for the return of Oklahoma City’s annual Hip Hop Nutcracker (HHN). Performances are set for December 5th and 6th at 7:30 p.m., and December 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Bishop McGuinness High School. General admission tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate of $16 at tickets.racedance.com or $20 at the door.

At-risk students enrolled in dance programs at Capitol Hill High School, Douglass High School, Millwood High School, Northwest Classen High School, Putnam City West High School, Putnam City North High School and U.S. Grant High School auditioned for HHN in September. RACE chose 63 students, ages 14-and-up to take part in the performance. Each student has been paired with a member of RACE and mentored over the last three months in preparation for the performance.

This year RACE has amped up the production of HHN with the addition of Starship Playground Producers and DJs Ben Edison and Chase Arnold. The duo will spin music live during the shows.

Like the original Nutcracker, HHN follows the journey of a young man who seeks to find something that is missing in his life, only to discover it exists within himself. However, HHN’s high-energy music and dance styles incorporate many more twists and turns than the traditional Nutcrackers. The take away for the audience is a message of perseverance, family and holiday spirit.
