Han van Meegeren is one of the most well known of the great art forgers of the twentieth century. His forgeries of the work of renowned Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer were purchased by some of the most prestigious, and notorious, collectors of the day including Andrew Mellon and Herman Goering. Romanticized versions of his life and flamboyant art exploits have fascinated audiences for years. In his lecture, noted art historian and author Jonathan Lopez will reveal the facts behind the fiction of master forger, Han van Meegeren.
