Full Circle Book Store: Derby Day!! Saturday, May 5th: We have played Full Circle on the First Saturday of May for years, and of course, it's also Derby Day, that sacred event for Kentuckians. So we'll cover the subjects of: coal mining: environmental and economic effects of; whiskey; and hats. And other topics germane to Kentucky. I'm going to wear a hat. Do you have a Derby-worthy hat and no Derby wear it to? Bring it. Or any favorite hat. Music 7:30 to 9:30.

Friday, May 11th: Grand House! Our turn to be the Grand House Friday Night Band! Grand House is the iconic Asian restaurant at 2701 N Classen Boulevard. Music starts at 6:30.

Saturday, May 12th: The Lobby Bar! We're back at the cool and groovy neighborhood bar next to Sushi Neko! Music from 8:00 to 10:00, at 43rd and Western Avenue.

Saturday, May 26th: Stillwater Bound! Celebrate the Big Weekend with us at Zannotti's Wine Bar in downtown Stillwater! 113 W 7th Avenue - 7:00 to 10:00 - no cover!

Perpetual Motion Dance presents a modern fable about a family in transition and a young girl traversing turbulent fantasy lands to reach her isolated parents. This will be the first story-based production in the company’s sixteen-year history and is family friendly. 

Cora’s Door is a story told through the imagination of a child as she explores hidden family secrets of past and present.  Following their 2017 residency at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Perpetual Motion’s creative team was inspired to build on the resulting fantastical elements to craft a story that speaks to adults and kids alike. The concert will take place May 3^rd-5^th 8:00pm and May 6^th 2:00pm at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center. Tickets available at www.perpetualmotiondance.org $25 Adult ($20 in Advance), $20 Student/Senior ($15 in Advance). Group discounts available.

These concerts, funded in part by a matching grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council, and additionally by donors and ticket sales, tour the state to bring this unique art form to a variety of settings including college, rural and urban audiences. Additional support provided by The Kirkpatrick Family Fund.

OKC PHIL ANNOUNCES
RESCHEDULING OF
MAY 12TH CLASSIC CONCERT

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic announces the postponement of Maestro Joel Levine's May 12 farewell concert. Maestro Levine, or Joel as he is widely and affectionately known, was diagnosed in the fall with early stage cancer. The cumulative effects of the chemo treatment over the past several months have proven more challenging than anticipated, and he has decided it best to allow himself plenty of time for recovery.

 The Philharmonic will announce the new concert date, anticipated to be in fall of 2018, once the calendars for Joel, the orchestra and the Civic Center Music Hall can be aligned. All season and single tickets for this event will be valid for the rescheduled date.

Says Eddie Walker, Executive Director of the Philharmonic, "These are tough moments and decisions, with many factors to consider, and postponing any concert is clunky, at best. But our primary desire was to allow Joel plenty of time to build back the strength to fully enjoy his finale. To simply 'carry on' with a concert on the night that was to have been his celebrated farewell just didn't seem right."

Some doubted that Oklahoma City was sophisticated enough to maintain a resident chamber music ensemble. It was. Others wondered if the City would support an annual chamber music festival.  It has. To the surprise of many—and thanks to you—Brightmusic’s Summer Chamber Music Festival has been well received, with attendance increasing year after year.   In June, Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present its 7th annual summer festival, “Brightmusic Goes Hollywood: The Chamber Music of Film Composers” in a four-concert festival.

As a Brightmusic supporter, here are some things you should know: 

1. The cost of season membership did not increase when Brightmusic added its Summer Festival; your season membership includes all four concerts of the festival at no additional charge;
2. The cost of presenting the Festival averages around $28,000; 
3. Over 50% of Brightmusic’s revenue comes from individuals like you; 
4. Brightmusic is a non-profit organization, and every dollar goes toward its mission of presenting fine chamber music at affordable prices, with free admission for students and active-duty military; 
5. Brightmusic is staffed by volunteers; we pay musicians and essential operating expenses only; and
6. Even with your support, Brightmusic is fortunate if it can end the season “in the black.” It seldom does.     

With yet another round of cuts to arts funding in Oklahoma due to severe budget shortfalls, Brightmusic needs your help more than ever.  A special tax-deductible “Festival Contribution” for the Brightmusic Summer Chamber Music Festival can help Brightmusic end its fiscal year in positive territory.  Those who lend special support to the Festival will be noted on the Festival programs, as well as next season’s programs, to thank them for supporting Oklahoma’s only annual chamber music festival.
