BRIGHTMUSIC'S
CHAMBER ENSEMBLE
BRINGS 
SHANTIES, SONGS AND
SERENADES 


On January 20-21, 2014, Oklahoma City’s own Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present two performances of the third concert of its 2013-14 Season, “Shanties, Songs and Serenades.”  This program features three works exclusively for wind instruments and two works for winds and piano.

Performances are Monday, January 20 at 7:30 at All Souls' Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania, and Tuesday, January 21 at 7:30 at St. Paul's Cathedral, 127 N.W. 7th Street in Oklahoma City.       

Works on the program are: (1) Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties for Wind Quintet, op. 4 (for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (2) David Maslanka’s Wind Quintet No. 4 (also for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (3) György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet (also for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (4) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, K.452 (for piano, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); and (5) Jean Françaix’s “L’Heure du berger” (for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and piano).           

Six musicians will appear at this concert:  Parthena Owens (flute), Lisa Harvey-Reed (oboe), Chad Burrow (clarinet), Carl Rath (bassoon), Kate Pritchett (horn) and guest pianist Alex McDonald (piano).    

The performances will take place: (1) at 7:30 pm on Monday, January 20th in northwest OKC (at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave.) and (2) at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, January 21st in downtown OKC (at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street).  Individual concert admission is $15/person (students with ID are free).  Season membership information is available on Brightmusic’s website, www.brightmusic.org.  Brighmusic is a participant in Allied Arts' OKCityCard program.
